What does the company do? What products/services do you offer?
Communities and school districts around Wisconsin count on Nelson’s every day to safely transport students. Nelson’s provides extensive driver training and factory-authorized service. We are also a platinum-certified dealer for Thomas Built Buses. You can service buses in our service center or in your facility. Our factory-certified technicians service every bus.
Who do you serve? Who is your target market?
Nelson’s transports more than 4,000 students daily to and from schools within the McFarland, Monona Grove, and Whitewater Unified School Districts. At the heart of everything we do is safety. Whether picking up students in the morning, taking them home after school, or for special activities, Nelson’s Team uses the newest equipment and well-trained drivers.
Who is the team?
Wendell and Dorothy Nelson started Nelson’s Bus Service in 1940. Wendell built his first bus at his service station in La Grange, Wisconsin. His philosophy: it doesn’t matter how old a bus is, it matters how you take care of it. This allowed him to operate buses longer than most anyone else in the school bus business. Generations and several business expansions later, Chris Arnett and David Nelson, along with their staff, continue the tradition of excellence in customer service.
As a community partner with students, parents, coaches, teachers, and district staff, we recognize that our team members are an extension of the school districts we serve. In many cases, we are the first and last point of contact with the children on daily basis. We believe in the Golden Rule and treat you as we would like to be treated. Quality and well-maintained equipment provide safety, reliability, and pride to our children.
What was your company's latest and greatest achievement?
April 2017, Nelson’s Bus Service honorably achieved Platinum Support certification by Thomas Built Buses. Only the most outstanding dealers within the Thomas dealer network receive this certification. As a Platinum Support certified dealer, the school bus industry recognizes Nelson’s as a leader in operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, customer service, and technical support.
What inspires you to keep going, pursuing your dream?
A Lifelong Passion for School Transportation. Led by Chris Arnett and Dave Nelson, both owners are the third generation in the school bus industry. Both drove routes, fixed buses, and worked with customers from their youngest years to their current roles at Nelson’s. Building on our passion, heritage, and commitment, Nelson’s Bus Service, Inc. remains focused on the safety and education of children.
